After considering culture as a verb, I found this reading even more interesting. As educators, I think we often have good intentions in "teaching" culture, but as noted it often amounts to information based on very little understanding and knowledge. The idea that culture is ever-changing is especially important in the classroom. Teachers who want to create a truly multicultural classroom need to continue learning, both inside and outside of the classroom. Often when there are cultural tensions in the classroom, it seems like something for the teacher to manage. I think this article helped me conceptualize more often how students can help guide a discussion and provide insights into these discussions. I found the idea of critically reflective autobiography especially compelling and something I want to reflect on, particularly because I have very culturally diverse classrooms.
Some other ideas that were important to me in these readings were invisible/visible culture, borders/boundaries.
