I thought the video today had a message that is important for educators across the curriculum to consider. I think this would be a helpful video for faculty training days.
Some notes I took away from the video:
1. Little is done to prepare teachers for international studetns
2. Students have different expectations and experiences with writing (this is true of ALL student, I think).
3. People will write with an accent (I love this quote because I think it makes it easier for people to understand that writing is not all going to be the same, and students do not quickly and automatically learn all of the stylistic conventions of a language just because they are at a university).
4. Teachers need to address their own cultural assumptions.
5. Teaching requires empathy for students and to consider difficulties they may have.
